Our rich history began in the early 1800s when a surveyor, John Gabriel Guignard, was hired to survey the newly established capital city of Columbia. He built a plantation here and named it Still Hopes, now offering Continuing Care West Columbia, SC.

In 1910, Gabriel Alexander Guignard, his son, erected the Victorian mansion that now remains as the focal point of our beautiful continuing care community. It wasn’t until just over 50 years later, his daughter, Dr. Jane Bruce Guignard, bequeathed the plantation and its acreage to the Trinity Episcopal Church with a vision for it to serve the area’s seniors. Her vision became a reality in 1977 when the Episcopal Church and a Board of Trustees established the non-profit community we are today.

In 1983, the Guignard Victorian mansion was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Still Hopes is now the only Episcopal-sponsored, all-inclusive, non-profit Continuing Care Retirement Community in the greater Columbia, South Carolina area serving 400 residents with over 600 staff members for a personalized and compassionate method of care in a warm, inviting, and engaging home.
